Eat a Peach: Shimo-Kitazawa
Without a doubt, the pokiest, most dilapidated, most alarmingly combustible-looking bar we've ever visited. Who knows how this place has stayed upright for 30 years. (The master-san cheerfully told us 'a level 4 earthquake should be fine, but 5 and I'll be out the window!'). And he did mean 'out the window', as we witnessed when he nimbly jumped out to say hello to his girlfriend.

Barely big enough to seat about 10 very small (or friendly) customers, everyone in this bar has to step outside to let the people in the furthest corner leave. (We hear the record is 15 people).

But no Shimokitazawa bar is too small for a couple of guitars in the corner. Eat a Peach is a popular hang-out for stars of stage and CD from the many live-houses nearby and local theatre.

Try Eat a Peach's special (you guessed it) peach cocktail. If you are feeling a little claustrophobic you might pop upstairs to 'Trouble Peach' - slightly bigger but no less ramshackle.
