Schallplatten Omega Point: Ikejiri-Ohashi
Schallplatten Omega Point is quite simply a record shop unlike any other. Started in 1997 by minimalist music enthusiast Osamu Ibe, Omega Point has become a treasure house for the forgotten music of the 20th Century. Fluxus, sound poetry, anti-records, field recordings, noise, and early electronic music make up just a few categories in the record bins here. Featured artists include La Monte Young, John Cage, Iannis Xenakis, Kosugi Takehisa, Hermann Nitsch and Nurse With Wound.

Fluxus multiples, secret records (record art objects), and posters by Marian Zazeela (wife of La Monte Young) line the shelves and walls to give the shop the ambience of a fine art gallery. Rare LPs with wallet-emptying prices are also on display, many of which are the stuff of legend to collectors of unconventional music.

With a selection that makes Rough Trade seem like a purveyor of Muzak, finding the right disc for your taste may take some doing, but most every work can be heard before you buy. Recommended discs are on display and listed on the Omega Point web site, as is a good overview of some of the featured artists, most notably La Monte Young.

Recordings/art objects are also available from Omega Point s own Edition OP Label, but are extremely limited and usually nearly sold out before they are released, so visit often!
