According to Mother's staff, this womb-like interior was inspired not by the bar's name, but by pre-historic Japanese caves; although, who knows how your average troglodyte would react to this psychedelic grotto? The almost organic looking walls and furniture are made from a crazy assortment of wood, clay, stone, melted glass, colored tiles, mirror shards and copper paneling. The creator was obviously the Gaudi of the Tokyo izakaya-design community.
The food is another hodge-podge of influences, perhaps best described as Asian-fusion. There are lots of bottled beers from around the world to try, and a knowledgeable mix of blues, rock, ska and more playing on the bar's record-turntable. Just watch out for the knobbly walls when you choose your seat.
