Marchand de Legumes: Omotesando
Need to smile? How about an otherwise totally useless wind-up gizmo whose only purpose is to jump about on spindly legs and spark? A sock monkey? A large white plastic molar toothbrush holder? A tiny foldable plastic lounge chair for your keitai phone? Or an eyeglass holder in the shape of a nose? This shop is full of such fun.

More practically you could opt for the extension cord that is a fish skeleton whose eyes light up when you plug it in, a giant light bulb lamp, or a feather boa picture frame. Everywhere you look your eyes are dazzled by translucent jewel-toned vinyl, acrylic and polyester things like the full line of Alessi's whimsical plastic kitchenware.

Upstairs is more Italian-, French-, Swedish- or English-designed stuff like clocks, tables, toys, Lego pens, plastic foam sandwiches, chairs designed by Phillipe Starck, and furniture by Constantino. And of course the ultimate lounge accoutrement, baby - a Mathmos, the original Lava Lamp - available here in all sorts of groovy shapes, styles and colors. Wander down to the basement to the Poche Vide shop for more sleek acrylic and wooden furniture.
